On the occasion of the holy event of Saint Srimanta Sankardev’s 570th birth anniversary, the Assam government has taken a unique step of paying respect to the religious leader. The government has announced a Dry Day on September 19, marking the birth anniversary of the greatest religious leader of the state.
Mahapurush Sankardeva holds a particular position in the Assamese cultural and religious society and hence, this step by the government is considered as acute and timely.
As a consequence, all sorts of liquor retail shops in the state shall remain closed in Sankardev Tithi.
