Assam Government plans to host ASEAN Football meet in Guwahati

CM disburses initial payment for developing sports ground

GUWAHATI: Giving a definitive push towards implementing the mega mission for rural empowerment and giving focused and concerted efforts in a time bound manner, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal disbursed initial payment of Rs. 8 lakh each to 371 play grounds which would be transformed into modern playgrounds. The fund, provided as a part of Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMGUY), was held at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium here today.

It may be noted that as an essential component of CMSGUY for the development of playgrounds at the rural areas, in the first phase 500 play grounds will be developed to give exposure to the rural sports talents to nurture their sporting acumen.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that taking into consideration of sports as an important tool for self development government is mulling the idea of integrating sports with education.

He also stated that his government is developing rural sports grounds to give an opportunity to the youth to develop their sporting acumen and get noticed at the national and international arena.

Chief Minister Sonowal also announced that State Government is in touch with the Central Government to organize and host ASEAN Football Championship in Guwahati. The efforts will be on to ensure participation of all the 10 ASEAN countries and Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
