Assam Lauded For National Scholarship Disbursement

GUWAHATI: The e-governance portal for ST welfare schemes was launched where Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda and Minister of State Renuka Singh Saruta were present.

Assam was represented by WPT and BC Minister Chandan Brahma and Director Bibhas Modi. The State was lauded for its achievements in distribution of the National Scholarship Programme which was pending for years. The Government of India was supposed to stop funding scholarship as for two years the State could not launch the programme. However, within three months Assam could avail the online facility. Around 40,000 students applied under ST category and 10,000 under OBC within just 45 days, leaving no arrears to pay. Last year an arrears amount of Rs 51 crore was cleared.

For 2018-19, within a month through DBT and with the support of the State PFMS cell, the government will clear all scholarship payment. All accounts will be verified by PFMS automatically before the payment is made and no student will have to go to the office for submission of application.
