Assam Panchayat polls: Submission of nominations ends peacefully

GUWAHATI: The submission of nominations for the first phase of the panchayat polls has ended peacefully on Thursday. The scrutiny of the nominations will be done on Friday. Accordingly, the valid nominated candidates can withdraw their respective nominations till November 19.

Notably, the first phase of the rural polls will be conducted in the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Saraidew, Jorahat, Majuli, Golaghat, Nogaon, Dehmaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darang, Morigaon, Kamrup metropolitan and Kamrup.

The first phase of the polls will be conducted for 251 Zila Parishad Constituencies (ZPCs), 1304 Anchalik Panchayat Members (APMs), 1304 Gaon Panchayat presidents and 13040 Gaon Panchayat Members (GPMs) which will be held on December 5.

Talking to The Sentinel on Thursday, State Election Commissioner, Assam HN Bora said, “Submission of the nominations has been concluded peacefully.”
