Special Correspondent

SILCHAR, March 8: In tune and rhythm with the ethos of Assam Rifles as ‘Friends of the Hill People’, a multi-tribal holi was celebrated. It was more of a multi-ethnic celebrations with dol-jatra and yaoshang for two days starting from March 5. The spirit of holi and its message of living together in a happier and merrier mood came alive in over 20 camp locations across the district of Dima Hasao. The colour, beauty and brightness of the holi against the sylvan hills, dales and streams under the blue canopy of sky and against all the greenery and scenic charms around added life and verve to the whole celebrations.

These camps included those in Jiribam areas of Manipur where the same joviality and mirth with the accent on peace, prosperity and happiness came reverted. Quite significant, the holi dahan organized at Haflong camp was witnessed by more than 500 people who included important officials and representatives of the autonomous district council and the civil administration. In addition, foot patrols of the Assam Rifles reached out to the entire area and joined in the celebrations of the people. This is reflective of bonhomie between the local populace and the Assam Rifles and bought out the spirit of unity in diversity.
