Assam Squad to Leave Today For Santosh Trophy Soccer Championship

GUWAHATI: Assam Football Association announced its team for the final round of the Santosh Trophy Soccer championship which would be held in Ludhiana from April 8. The team would leave the city tomorrow to participate in the championship. Assam are placed in cluster ‘B’ along with Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab and Sikkim. The side will face host Punjab in their opening game on April 9.

On the opponents in the group stage the coach said, “Top ten teams of the country are taking part in the final round and the level of competition would be definitely high now. So we are not thinking about our opponents. We are working on only one area and it is to play better football.”

Mid fielder: Shyam Jyoti Pegu, Pulung Daimary, Rakesh Basumatary, Sirandeep Moran, Sagar Hang Limbu, Jianchun Rangmei, Situ Basumatary. Forward: Milan Basumatary, Tulya Das, Akrang Narzary, Bishnu Bardoloi and Ishaq Sangma. Head Coach: Subir Dey: Asssitant Coach: Raj Kumar Singh. Manager: Uttam Brahma.

Schedules of Assam (group stage): April 9 vs Punjab. April 11 vs Maharashtra. April 13: vs Sikkim and April 15: vs Karnataka.
