Assam To Construct a Cultural Integration Centre in Arunachal Pradesh

Bolung: The Assam government is all set to construct a cultural integration centre in the name of musical icon Dr Bupen Hazarika near the Dhola-Sadia Bridge at Dhola in Assam’s Tinsukia district, to pave way for the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for cultural exchanges.

“Our government has already acquired a plot of land measuring 200 bighas to construct the Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Integration Centre to connect people of both the states culturally,” Minister of State for Power Tapan Gogoi informed while participating in the statue unveiling ceremony of the legendary singer named as ‘Statue of Brotherhood’, here on Saturday.

Gogoi said that with the unveiling of the statue the relationship between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has deepened and Hazarika had worked throughout his life to unite the people of both the states.

“The northeast region which suffered decades of negligence and was not popular to the outside world has now caught the attention of the people of other parts of the country because of the contribution made by Hazarika through his songs and other literary activities,” Gogoi said.

The minister said that every song of Dr Hazarika is a source for research and would be helpful to the young scholars of the region.

“When the people of the region carry the name of Hazarika in their hearts, no force can disintegrate the region. Hazarika’s songs are the inspiration for the people and enabled them to remain united,” he added.

Assam Chief Minister Sorbananda Sonowal, who was supposed to attend the programme could not make it due to his pre-occupations. However, Sonowal through a message congratulate the people of both the states and hoped that the statue would strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the people.
