Assam to help Manipur with vehicles during polls

GUWAHATI, Feb 26: Following a request from its Manipur counterpart, the Transport Department, Assam is going to extend logistic support in the form of vehicles like buses, trucks, LMVs, SUVs etc., in view of the Assembly elections in Manipur, slated for March 4 (Phase I) and March 8 (Phase II).

The State Transport Department has already initiated the vehicle requisition process to help the neighbouring state for smooth conduct of Assembly elections. The vehicles requisitioned at Guwahati and other districts of Assam are being paid by cash at the rate of 70 per cent and 100 per cent for hiring charges and meal allowances for drivers/helpers. In this regard, the Manipur Government has fixed the hiring charge of heavy bus (above 30 seats) at Rs. 3,655 per day, heavy truck (nine tonner) at Rs. 3,514 per day and LMV at Rs. 1818 per day. Meal allowances for drivers and helpers are fixed at Rs. 250 and Rs. 200 per day. The Government of Manipur will bear all the expenses, including fuel.

The Transport Department of Manipur has appealed to the vehicle owners of Assam to join hands with the Government’s initiative by offering their vehicles for smooth conduct of elections till March 10.

Assam Transport Department has also requested all transport associations of Assam and individual owners of vehicles to cooperate with the election process and may report their vehicles to Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium, Sarusajai, Lokhra, Guwahati and may claim the payable hiring charges/meal allowances from the camped office at the Swimming Pool Stadium till February 27, 2017.
