DIPHU: The entrance gate of Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC), 8 mile, Lumding Road, was locked down by the students of AUDC after an hour-long protest by the activists of the Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union (AUDCSU) against the alleged illegal appointment of Laboratory Attendant in the Physics department of AUDC, on Monday. The activists of AUDCSU alleged that one Jayanta Sarkar was appointed as Laboratory Attendant by depriving Jonasing Rongpi, who has been working as Laboratory Attendant of the department for almost 10 years.

General secretary of AUDCSU, Rowel Teron told media persons, “The competent authority has selected Jayanta Sarkar as the Laboratory Attendant just simply because he belonged to SC category. But when we checked in advertisement copy there is no mention of reservation for that particular post. So it is totally an illegal appointment and we demand that Sarkar should be removed and Rongpi should be appointed for the post as he has worked for almost 10 years as Laboratory Attendant.”

Further, Teron said that on February 23, a memorandum was submitted to the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, Dr. Dilip Chandra Nath in this regard. “Until and unless Sarkar is removed and Rongpi is appointed for the post, the AUDC gate will remain locked,” Teron added.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor, AUDC, Prof. Sivasish Biswas, when asked by media person said, “I know Jonasing Rongpi is experienced, but in the application advertisement there was no mention of experience. It is an unreserved post and is open for all. Maybe based on written test Jonasing did not get selected.”
