Assam’s filmmaker Rima Das is going to make a movie on sprinter Hima Das

Assamese Filmmaker Rima Das, whose film ‘Village Rockstar’ bragged many prestigious awards into the state including Best Feature Film ‘Swarna Kamal’ award at the 65th National Film Awards is now planning to make a film on sprinter Hima Das. Hima Das became the first Indian to grabbed a Gold medal in a track event at the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2018.

In an interaction with media persons in Guwahati, award-winning filmmaker Rima Das spoke briefly that she finds similarities with sprinter Hima Das, who hails from Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Das said, “I see a similarity with Hima Das. On the day when she was able to create history, I felt that there is some similarity in our journey. She was able to achieve recognition after coming from a village and in the same way I have also been working coming from a village. So, I am very interested to make a movie on Hima Das.”

Filmmaker Das said in her movie, she intends to spotlight the positive aspect of how coming from an environment in the village how Hima Das has been able to come into the limelight in the world arena.

The award-winning filmmaker further said, “Assam is more advanced in the fields of sports and music. So, I am planning to make films about sports and music. In sports, I am planning to make a film on the life of Hima Das.”

Rima Das' upcoming Assamese feature, Bulbul Can Sing is set to have its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2018. Bulbul Can Sing is an intuitive coming-of-age drama tells a teenage girl, Bulbul, living in a village in Assam, defining her way through love and loss as she figures out her identity in this world.
