Assembly Polls 2021: Ruling Alliance Will Target 100 Seats, Says Himanta Biswa Sarma

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The BJP, AGP, and BPF alliance has decided to prepare for the next 2021 Assembly polls in the State. Informing this to media, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The target of our alliance partners is to get at least 100 seats in Assam in 2021.”

Sarma further stated, “From May 30, when Narendra Modiji will take oath as the Prime Minister of the country (for the second term) we will concentrate all our efforts to achieve this objective. Our alliance will carry out a vigorous campaign and also accelerate various development projects across the State.”

Sharply criticizing the president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Rahul Gandhi, Sarma stated, “There is no future for Congress. I think if Rahul Gandhi continues as AICC chief, surely it will help the BJP. But at the same time, for a vibrant democracy there has to be a strong Opposition. The BJP believes that in our Parliament there should be space for Opposition. If there is no Rahul Gandhi then there is a possibility of a vibrant Opposition. But till he is there, I don’t see any such a possibility. However, from BJP’s point of view, Rahul Gandhi should be Congress president for at least 50 more years.”
