Assembly refers Kameng varsity bill to select committee

Itagar, March 14: The state assembly today referred the Kameng Professiol and Technical University Aruchal Pradesh Bill 2017 (Amended) to a select committee of the assembly to study the pros and cons of the Bill before being taken up in the house for consideration and passing. Education Minister Honchun Ngandam introduced the Bill in the assembly on March 6 last. On March 9, when the bill was taken up for discussion, many members suggested for amendment of the bill and Speaker T N Thongdok on the advice of Chief Minister Pema Khandu directed Ngandam to re-submit the bill in the floor of the assembly with necessary amendments in the clauses. As soon as Ngandam urged the members for its consideration and safe passage in the house, Buragaon-Thirinizo MLA Kumsi Sidisow informed that the locals of the area have been opposing the private university and accordingly served memorandums to him, Chief Minister and the education minister expressing their resentments, further requested the house to refer it to a select committee. Ngandam while admitting receiving of the memorandum where members of Aka community resented for not consulting them, referred it to a select committee of the house.

Later the Speaker constituted the select committee with Ngandam as the chairman including senior BJP members Japu Deru, Kumsi Sidisow, Pani Taram and Mama tung as members.

The Bill was introduced with a view to develop education in the field of higher education and to establish and incorporate the Kameng Professiol and Technical University so as to provide to the students and teachers the necessary atmosphere and facilities for promotion of innovations, leading to proper structuring of course, new method of teaching and integral development of persolity for all round development of the state.
