At least 2000 litres of Fermented Wash & 40 litres of country-made liquor destroyed in Guwahati

Guwahati: The State Excise Department Kamrup Metro on Tuesday carried out an operation in various places of Guwahati City and destroyed at least 2000 litres of Fermented wash (raw materials) and 40 litres of the illicit country-made liquors on the spot.

As per a press statement by the Kamrup Administration, the Excise Department had the launched the operation at Kanchan Nagar Hills near Pratiksha Hospital, Chachal, Kamal Nagar at Narakasur Hills in Guwahati.

Apart from this, the department had also destroyed the utensils and other stuff which are being used to prepare country made liquors.

The department has taken one person into custody for allegedly running and selling country-made liquor in the city.

Moreover, three more persons were arrested for allegedly drinking alcohol in the public places in the city.

It may be mentioned that the Assam government on Monday had banned molasses across the state following the deaths of more than 150 people in the state in Golaghat and Jorhat districts died after consuming spurious alcohol.

Note: Molasses – a byproduct of sugar-refining – is used to make country liquor “Sulai”.

Furthermore, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal earlier asked Chief Secretary Alok Kumar to direct all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure ban molasses in all the districts of Assam.

Moreover, they were also asked to generate awareness campaigns on the side effects and causes of the consumption of country made liquors.
