Atletico President Wants Club in Wanda Metropolitano CL Final

Madrid: Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has vowed to fight to qualify for the UEFA Champions League final, scheduled to be played at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home pitch of Los Rojiblancos.

Cerezo made these remarks during the inauguration of a plaque celebrating Atletico Madrid’s establishment in 1903 by a group of students who wanted to create a Madrid-based football team modelled on Athletic Bilbao.

“We will do everything in our power to reach that final,” Cerezo said during the event attended by Madrid City Councillor Antonio Miguel Carmona and Ines Sabanes, Madrid City councillor for the environment and mobility.

“The two times we have reached the Champions League final we had to eliminate great teams,” Cerezo said indicating Los Rojiblancos’ two Champions League final losses.

Atletico Madrid reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2013-2014 and 2015-2016, losing on both occasions to Real Madrid, who have won four out of the most recent five titles. IANS
