GOLAGHAT: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) released its poll manifesto in the AGP head office at Golaghat on Tuesday. In the poll manifesto, the AGP has focused on safety and security to the indigenous people of Assam. The party has also focused to cent per cent implementation of the Assam Accord.

After releasing the manifesto, minister and AGP president Atul Bora said that speedy development had been seen under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The AGP believed that Narendra Modi could bring more development in Assam if he again took charge as the next Prime Minister. He further said that the AGP had fielded candidates in three Lok Sabha constituencies - Kaliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri. They believed that AGP-BJP alliance candidate would win in 14 seats.

On the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, he said that the AGP would never support the Bill. Besides the citizenship bill, other issues that the AGP focussed in the poll manifesto are unemployment, women empowerment and farmers’ distress. The AGP said that their MPs would raise voice for implementation of the Assam Accord and implementation of Schedule 6 for the safety and security of the indigenous people.

The manifesto also listed the issue of granting ST status to the six communities and special status to Assam which was withdrawn by the government. Atul Bora also said that the party was not in favour of big dams and preferred small dams in the State. Bora attacked the Congress party and slammed Gaurav Gogoi for only talking about Rahul Gandhi and not about prime issues of Assam like the Assam-Nagaland border problem and flood and erosion problem, in the Lok Sabha.

The AGP MPs would have the responsibility to speak about the burning issues of the State. Atul Bora further said that the Congress was the enemy of Assam. “The Congress brought the illegal migrants to Assam for vote bank. As a result, people of Assam had to launch Gana Andolan from 1979 to 1985 against the illegal migrants where 855 people were martyred and many more injured. The AGP has received overwhelming support from the people and we believe that people’s mandate will be in our favour,” said Bora.
