SHILLONG, April 6: The A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO), a Garo Hills organization, has expressed its disappointment on the idea of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that work permit will be issued to Bangladeshi tiol.
The chief organizing secretary of the organization Silkam Marak said that the organization has expressed its displeasure over the idea of the Chief Minister.
The AYWO also wants to remind the Chief Minister that he and his political friends were elected by the people of Meghalaya not by the Bangladeshis.
Marak said that the government should instead focus on pro tribal policies by setting up entry-exit points all over Meghalaya, including Garo Hills, to contain the illegal inflow of outsiders into Meghalaya.
The organization wants that the state government should effectively implement the Land Transfer Act 1972, check all the bemi transaction and implement the Meghalaya Bemi Transaction Act, Meghalaya Residential Bill and work a way out of the unending sufferings of the people and respect the people’s mandate.
“The Government should work out policies which benefit the indigenous people of the state and not Bangladeshis,” he said.
The AYWO is of the opinion that to boost the state economy and trading relation, the people cannot put their survival at stake.
“If the Chief Minister can have the idea of such kind for outsiders, then he should also have an idea of implementing ILP for the people of Meghalaya,” he said.
He said that the organization would like to urged upon the MDA Government to do away with the idea of issuing work permit to Bangladeshi tiols. “Instead we encourage the idea of equipping our youths with vocatiol trainings and help them in setting up their own start ups by giving them much needed fincial help,” Marak said.
