AU Diphu campus students demand release of scholarship

HAMREN, Jan 31: The students of Assam University Diphu campus staged a sit-in on Monday, in front of the entrance gate of the Deputy Commissioner’soffice.

The demonstration was led by Remi Rongpipi, president and Bibison Rongpi, general secretary of Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union (AUDCSU). The demands are immediate release of scholarship for the session 2014-2015 for ST and SC students, immediate release of scholarship for other than SBI account holder of 2015-16, renewal scholarship for the session 2015-16 and immediate release of fresh scholarship for the session of 2016-17 for ST and Sc students.

Taking to media persons, Remi Rongpipi, president of AUDCSU, said that several times memorandum regarding the release of scholarship had been submitted but no action was taken in this regard. “If the State Government does not take any interest to fulfill our demand then we will fight in democratic ways,” added Rongpipi.

AUDCSU students said they had met Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan and a word of assurance was given to them that by February, they would receive scholarship.
