Authorities fail to solve garbage woes in Dibrugarh Thanacharali

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: A pile of thrash in the heart of the town in Thanacharali has become an eye sore for the residents of the locality as well as onlookers.

Located right below the over-bridge, the site of the garbage and other waste items has, however, failed to attract the notice of the authorities concerned. Although some conscious and active locals had cleaned up the entire space recently and even put up a signboard asking people not to throw garbage there, the practice continues unabated.

Talking to The Sentinel, one of the residents, Anjana Baruah, who runs a fast-food outlet said, “This has been going on for quite some time now. The culprit comes under the cover of night when none of us is present there, dumps the filth, and takes flight. Although it is a private property, the foul smell emanating from the spot, apart from the germ-carrying flies it invites, is causing harm to the public at large. We hope that the authority will look into this matter on an urgent basis.” Another person who runs his tuition centre there said, “This is a mockery of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.” It is interesting to note that right next to the spot there is also a skill-development centre run under the aegis of the Labour Ministry.
