Awareness meet on NRC

GORESWAR, June 29: An awareness meet on NRC was organized by Baksa district administration at the Bishnu Rabha Bhavan at Goreswar on Thursday with a view to create awareness among people under Goreswar Revenue circle in Baksa district. The meeting was chaired by Sanjib Kumar Gogoi and the objective of the meeting was explained by Alakananda Medhi, Circle Officer of Goreswar. Deputy Commissioner of Baksa, Sanjib Kumar Gogoi took part in the awareness meet and said that the people need not get worried even if their names were not found in the second draft of NRC.

“It is a continuous process to enter the names of all Indian citizens in the NRC. All names of genuine Indian citizens will enter in the NRC though their names may not find place in the second draft. All the names of genuine Indian citizens will be included in the final draft,” he said. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Baksa, Ratul Kalita attended the meeting and appealed to field-level officials engaged in NRC update work to create awareness in the villages that there was no need to panic or worry for all genuine Indian citizens if their names did not appear in the second draft of NRC because sufficient time would be given to them to submit their claims and objections in the next final phase.

Addressing the gathering, Binay Kalita, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Baksa, said that the names of people declared as foreigners by the court and indicated as ‘D’ voter in the voters’ list would not appear in the second draft NRC. O/C of Goreswar police station, all the officials engaged in the NRC works, senior citizens and local people were present in the well-attended awareness meet.
