DHUBRI, June 14: An awareness meeting with representatives of political parties and leading citizens of Dhubri was held prior to publication of the second draft of NRC. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sorman Ali Ahmed at the DC conference hall on Wednesday. The second draft of NRC will be published as scheduled on June 30, Ahmed informed.
Ahmed in his speech sought co-operation of the people and explained details of ongoing preparation of NRC update in the district. He said it was being done with utmost sincerity and zero loopholes backed by latest technology. “Names of some genuine citizens may not appear in the second draft, but they need not worry as sufficient time will be given to them to file and submit their claims and objection in the next phase. So in the final draft, all the names of genuine citizens will be included,” Ahmed reiterated and assured the participants in the meeting.
Director of Necardo, an NGO, Binoy Bhattacharjee, however, questioned the preparation and said it was not full-proof as claimed because names of many D-voters also appeared in the last draft of NRC while Dhubri district unit BJP vice-president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal regretted that like many genuine citizens, his name also did not figure in the first draft of NRC published on December 31, 2017, though they were bona fide citizens. Speaking in the meeting, Additional Superintendent of Police Gunindra Deka also sought co-operation from the people to deal with trouble and rumour mongers.
