Awareness programme on adoption

Tezpur, July 6: An awareness programme on adoption was held at the office premises of the DLSA on Thursday. The programme was organized by District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Darak Ullah delivered the key-note address and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur, MC Bordoloi outlined the objectives of the programme. Chief Judicial Magistrate Debashish Saikia and other judicial officers were also present.

In the programme, stakeholders in the adoption process expressed the difficulties faced by them. Darak Ullah highlighted the child’s eligibility for adoption, eligibility criteria of prospective adoptive parents, necessity of following correct procedure in adoption and following up cases where children have already been adopted. Role of notary, Social Welfare Department and Child Welfare Committee in the adoption process were highlighted. A need for following a transparent procedure for adoption is the keystone of the Adoption Regulation, he said.
