SILCHAR, February 16: An awareness programme on ‘Commodity Futures Market’ was organised by District Development Mager (DDM), BARD here today. The programme was attended by representatives of various farmers’ clubs, societies, federation and achiever farmers. The programme started with a welcome address by Debabrata Das, DDM, BARD, Cachar. In his introductory remarks, he spoke briefly on the background and also the objective of the programme. While rrating on the evolution of the Forward Markets in India, Das informed the participants about the emergence of the Forward Markets Commission (FMC) and the strategic role played by it in healthy growth of commodity futures market in the country. He also briefly elaborated on how the responsibility of organising State and District level programmes was vested on BCONS by the FMC. The participants expressed their happiness at the initiative of the FMC and the Govt. of India to spread awareness on the Commodity Futures Market which has a critical role in overall development of the economy. The introductory session was followed by the business sessions, which were handled by the DDM. Through power point presentations, he explained various terminologies and concepts associated with the Forward and Commodity Futures Market. He also dealt in detail the operations of Commodity Exchanges, its role in risk magement and price discovery, the regulatory framework, the role of Forward Market Commission and filly, the impact of Forward Market Trading on farmers of the country. He also clarified various doubts and answered to the queries of the participants. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by DDM, BARD, Cachar.
