Awareness rally on rights of persons with disabilities

GUWAHATI, May 25: In an endeavour to create awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities, the Shishu Sarothi has carried out an awareness rally at Birubari on Friday. The rally was organised in collaboration with the Regional Action for Inclusive Education North-East (RAISE-North East) project.

The objective of the rally was to sensitize the community on the rights of persons with disabilities besides sending a message to decision makers to take action to provide children with disabilities an equal opportunity. The rally also intended to create awareness among local bodies that all children have the right to quality inclusive education.

The rally was flagged off by the Kamrup (M) Circle Officer Damodar Barman. Members from the Assam Sahitya Sabha, Birubari Sakha, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram and Birubari Unnayan Samiti participated in the rally. Students from nearby SSA schools also took part in the rally in solidarity with the cause of Inclusive Education. Shishu Sarothi has been working towards ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities across the north east India region for the past over 31 years.
