Ayurveda has cure for Migraine: Doctor

GUWAHATI, April 24: Migraine can be treated by Ayurveda, claims internationally-acclaimed Ayurveda expert Vaidya Balendu Prakash while addressing a seminar here in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Recipient of Padmashree and former Physician to President of India, Vaidya B Prakash elaborated as how he found a corelation between Sleshma Pitta and Migraine in the mid 1980’s and subsequently developed an Ayurvedic Treatment Protocol (ATP). Comprising  Aahar (diet), Vihaar (Lifestyle) and Aushaadh (Ayurvedic formulations), this treatment has been tested clinically for varied aspects such as toxicology and pharmacology. He said that it is a disease of gastrointestinal system, although people of conventional system of medicine consider it as a disease of Neurological system. He added that faulty diet habit like irregular, untimely food, reheated food, lack of minerals in the food are also the cuses of Migrane. It is seen that in most of the cases that the Migrane patients takes pain killer to get relief but taking pain killer further aggravates the condition of gastro intestinal system resulting in the development of other complaints, he added. Clinical trials on Chronic Migraine at the Department of Neurology All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi have proved the efficacy of Ayurvedic medicines in the treatment of Migraine.

The programme, aimed at awareness among general public about myths and facts on migraine, was attended by hundreds of students, doctors and enthusiasts. The organizers Vaidya Himangshu Barua and Dr. Rehana Parveen thanked the audience for showing such enthusiasm for the seminar.
