Our correspondent

Itanagar, May 28: A team of Union AYUSH ministry, led by under Secretary Amit Ranjan, visited the North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM) at Pasighat in East Siang district recently to speed up the recruitment process to make the lone institute of India functional. The building was completed couple of years ago but it remained non-functional due to want of staffs including doctors, botanist, IT etc.

Ranjan said that vacancies had been advertised for early recruitment, while the director has been authorized to procure other requirements and other infrastructures would be gradually developed.

The institute, which was sanctioned by then Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda at Itanagar Raj Bhawan in 2006, will of great use considering the huge medicinal plant resources of the State, he added.

However, Director Pekyom Ringu said all-out efforts are on by tying up with New Delhi mandarins to achieve the goal of serving the people of NE India.
