Azerbaijan Ambassador to India Dr Ashraf Shikhaliyev discusses bilateral relations with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to India Dr Ashraf Shikhaliyev called on Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s office in Janata Bhawan and discussed bilateral issues of mutual interests between Azerbaijan and Assam.

Hailing Assam’s sprawling tea gardens and their product Dr Ashraf Shikhaliyev expressed his country’s interests in investing in Assam Tea and import Assam tea for his country’s consumption. Referring to Azerbaijan’s tea drinking habits, Dr. Ashraf Shikhaliyev said that Assam tea will be in huge demand in Azerbaijan. He also stated that Information Technology and tourism are other two sectors which both Assam and Azerbaijan can work together.

According to a press release, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while presenting core sectors of business in Assam to Azerbaijan Ambassador said that both Azerbaijan and Assam should work to send their respective delegations to both geographical entities. Stating Assam’s rich tradition of preparing mouth-watering dishes both veg and non-veg, Sonowal invited Dr Ashraf Shikhaliyev to visit Assam once again with his country’s business delegation. Dr Ashraf Shikhaliyev acknowledging the hospitality of the people of Assam expressed his keen interests in strengthening his country’s bilateral relations with Assam. He also invited Chief Minister Sonowal to Azerbaijan which the Chief Minister accepted in principle. Minister of State for Power (independent charge) Topon Gogoi, Chief Minister’s legal advisor Santanu Bharali were also present during the meeting.
