Bajali College teacher's demise condoled

PATHSALA, Oct 24: Associate Professor of the Botany department in Bajali College, social worker and freelance writer Anta Mohan Sarma passed away on Tuesday morning in Guwahati. He had been ill for some months. He was 55. As soon as the news of his demise spread, people thronged the Bajali College campus to pay their last respect. Sarma popularized science among the common people there and fought against superstition and witch hunting in the society.

His body was bought from Guwahati to Pathsala in the evening and students, staff and people from all walks of life paid him their last respect. Sarma was dymic, prolific, consistent and innovative in teaching. He completed his elementary education from his village school Bamunkuchi and completed his secondary education from Patacharkuchi Vidyapith. Then he took admission in Bajali College for his collegiate education. He got his bachelor’s degree with honours in Botany. He obtained his PG degree from Gauhati University in Botany and completed M.Phil from GU.

He published a large number of articles in various newspapers. After serving as teacher in Mizoram, he joined Bajali College in 1989. For many years he served as a local correspondent in a newspaper from Pathsala. He published biographies of eminent persolities of Bajali area. He also produced a number of documentary films. He was also a cartoonist and poet and played the flute.

He taught Mass Communication in Bajali College. His untimely death has cast a pall of gloom in the entire Bajali subdivision. His body was later brought to his village Bamunkuchi and cremated in the evening. His demise has been widely condoled.
