Ban evil twins of gamosa, says State Textiles Minister

GUWAHATI, June 6: Highlighting on the Handlooms (Preservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985 a meeting was held at Dispur on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture Minister Ranjit Dutta. The meeting was also attended by the Assam Chamber of Commerce, Assam Textile Merchant Association along with the officials of the department of handloom and textile.

The primary focus of the meeting was to ban the importing of power loomed gamosa from outside industries. Promising to cooperate the department in their effort to ban the imported variety, the Assam Chamber of Commerce and the Assam Textile Merchant Association have expressed their concern to protect the interest of the local artisans of the state. They also appealed the Minister to continue the vigil against the power loomed variety.
