‘Ban Toblighi Jamats and offer no janaja for terrorist’

GUWAHATI, Sept 19: Toeing the line that Islam has no room for terrorism, the Jamat-Ulama-e-Assam has raised the demand for banning Toblighi Jamats, besides offering no janaja and kabarstan (burial ground) for any terrorists so as not to rerun what is happening in Kashmir here in Assam.

The State Jamat has made such a statement in the backdrop of the arrest of a number of youths from Assam for their links with Hizbul Mujahideen.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Wednesday, Jamat-Ulama-e-Assam president Mufti Ibadur Rahman Qasmi said: “Some of the youths arrested in the State recently for their links with Hizbul Mijahideen have links with Toblighi Jamats as well. Toblighi Jamats need to be banned. They’re followers of Delhi-based Nizamuddin Markaz that has religious leaders mostly from Pakistan and Afghanistan. What they practice isn’t Islam. Toblighi Jamats mislead youths. If a Muslim youth has to learn or teach anything, he can go to the Madrassas, not Toblighi Jamats. Islamic Moulanas aren’t happy with the activities of Toblighi Jamats. They need to be banned. In fact, there should be a survey to ascertain their whereabouts and number.”

On Islamic terrorism, Qasmi said: “Such terrorists have to be ostracized from Islamic society. In fact, we shouldn’t offer any janaja at the demise of any terrorist, nor should we offer any kabarstan (burial ground) for terrorists. We don’t want a rerun of what’s happening in Kashmir here in Assam. In Kashmir janajas are offered even at the demise of terrorists.”
