Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) all set to start from January 5, says Bangladesh Cricket Board

Guwahati: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to host its sixth edition after the five superlative seasons of the franchise-based on the T20 league. Earlier, the Bangladesh Premier League sixth edition was all set to start in the month of October, however, the country’s lone T20 tournament is now scheduled to start on 5 January after a meeting, which will be held between the tournament’s governing council members and franchises representatives at Mirpur.

Although general elections of Bangladesh will commence in the last week of December, January 5 to February 8 shall be the best time to host the sixth edition of BPL, feels Jalal Younus, Technical Committee Chairman. Jalal further said that they want to complete the draft of players by October, although the dates have not yet been finalized.

Bangladesh Cricket Board officials weren’t sure whether they will be able to provide adequate security to its players, and they had decided to host the BPL in January instead, as the General Election t be held in the Country at that time. Bangladesh Cricket Board is also believed to change the schedule in order to provide adequate security for BPL and instead opted for a three ODIs and two Tests against Zimbabwe. It is known that many security agencies have already informed the board about their unavailability due to the election duties.

Bangladesh's National Cricket team has yet been able to prove its strength in limited overs format after the team clinched the 3-Match One-day series against West Indies.
