Bank employee assaulted in Dhemaji

Dhemaji, November 29: An employee of Dhemaji State Bank of India was assaulted by some miscreants recently when he was coming from office.

Demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes has badly affected the people of Dhemaji  as well. Long queues can be often seen in front of the banks. A customer, at the time of exchanging the notes, allegedly had a heated altercation with one of the bank employees, Jayanta Sharma. The next day when Sharma was coming back home from the bank, some youths allegedly stopped his motorcycle, assaulted him and stched Rs 10,000 from him and ran away. They also warned Sharma not to inform the police.

The victim lodged an FIR in Dhemaji Police Station. The miscreants had come in a vehicle (AS 22 D 2026), equipped with weapons. Sharma sustained severe injuries on the face and the chest and he was shifted to Guwahati for treatment. Dhemaji police sources said that four people connected with the assault have been arrested. A four wheeler has also been seized.

Police sources added that one of the arrested persons is a relative of the bank employee. Dhemaji police have intensified investigation.
