Bank employees express dissatisfaction with scrapping of Good Friday holiday

Kokrajhar: While appreciating the order of Mumbai High Court on declaring of Good Friday as a gazetted Holiday in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu and Dara and Nager Haveli, some serving and retired Christian employees were aggrieved at the scrapping of Good Friday holiday on Friday by the banks in Assam.

Naresh Narzinary, a retired SBI employee of Kokrajhar expressed his dissatisfaction. Janak Basumatary of Kokrajhar said that he felt sad and discriminated for the first time in his 25 years of Bank’s service, as he had to avail casual leave to participate in observation of Good Friday, and requested the government and financial institutions to restore the Good Friday holiday from next year.

Pranjit Narzary of Gossaigaon who is the secretary of Bodo National Christian Council (NBCC) expressed his anguish at the way institutions, and offices are being suffronized. Nagen Narzary of Bongaigaon, who is the president of All Bodo Catholic Welfare Association (ABCWA) opined that banking institutions in Assam have lost its secular status by scrapping the Good Friday holiday.
