SHILLONG: Taking a jibe at former Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) leader, Banteidor Lyngdoh PDF MLA and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs has said that there are people without power will always seek power if at the cost of changing a political uniform by joining another party. “We always had communication with PN Syiem and it’s not only him who founded the party PDF but there were many others including MDCs in the KHADC,” Lyngdoh said here on Saturday.

It may be mentioned that PN Syiem founding member and Chairman of the PDF last month had resigned from the party and later joined the National People’s Party (NPP). Recalling the challenges encountered by the people of the states especially concerning the issue of traditional heads, he said, “In 2016 the traditional heads were toothless as their powers have been taken away hence I took a decision to leave the Congress and become an independent MDC and joined the PDF later in 2017,” he said.

Lyngdoh said that he supported the PDF by joining the party with a sole purpose and that is to strengthen the position of Central Executive Member (CEM) held by PN Syiem at KHADC. “There are no permanent friends and enemies in politics,” he said.

He also pointed out that Syiem had contested the MLA election last year from Mawsynram constituency but lost the election to a Congress candidate and later contested a by-election at Ranikor constituency in which he again lost. “In Ranikor PN Syiem received only around 2000 votes and because of this maybe he had decided to join a new party,” he said. He however urged the people of the state to continue to support the party as the ideology of PDF is to uplift the indigenous people of Meghalaya.
