Barpeta's Bajali College student critically injured in attack

PATHSALA: In a shocking incident, 20-year old Kishor Gayan, who is a student of BA 3rd semester in Bajali College, was attacked with a sharp weapon by a person on Monday at Bharegaon in Sarthebari Police Station under Barpeta district.

Kishor Gayan is the son of Sadananda Gayan and Saraswati Gayan of village Bharegaon in Barpeta district. He received serious injuries on his chest. His family members lodged an FIR against Akhim Kalita (28) of the same village. The incident took place when the victim went out of his house on Monday at around 9 pm. Suddenly Akhim allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon and ran away from the scene on a bike, eyewitness said.

A seriously injured Kishor was admitted to a nearby hospital but the doctor immediately referred him to a hospital in Guwahati for better treatment. Currently he is in the ICU at GNRC, Amingaon. The intention behind the attack is not clear. Police registered a case (no 370/18) under section 326 IPC. The accused and his family are absconding. Police have launched an operation to nab the culprit, said Pranab Das, IC of Balapara outpost. Meanwhile, Bajali College students’ union has demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
