Bathou religious day celebrated

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 27: Along with other parts of the region the traditiol Bodo “Bathou San” (Bathou Religious Day) was celebrated at Bathou Thanshali, Baganshali in Kokrajhar town on Tuesday with a day long programme. Bathou San, the traditiol religion of the Bodos is celebrated in every 2nd Tuesday of the Magh month. The traditiol Bathou and Cultural Centre, Kokrajhar have celebrated centrally at Baganshali Bathou Thanshali under the aegis of Kokrajhar district committee of All Bathou Gouthum (All Bathou Religious Union).

Hundreds of Bathou followers from different parts of the district participated in the religious festival to worship Bwrai Bathou with traditiolly in the morning. As part of the programme a mass prayer with the theme of ‘peace to region’ was held from 9.30 in the morning followed by cultural rally which was flagged off by Seuli Brahma Mohilary where hundreds devotees participated. A discussion on Bodo traditiol religion was also held on the occasion. There were also beating of Bodo traditiol musical instruments “Kham” with 35 persons at a time and playing of “Sifung”, “Serja” and “Jotha”.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary who attended the open session as the chief guest said the Bathou religion is one of the oldest religions and this religion and its philosophy are deeply associated with the Bodos.

He said the religion was utmost important to bind a community to protect its decency. He also said that his council will extend all help for the construction office, shrine, prayer hall and other infrastructure for the preservation Bathou and its philosophy.

Talking to reporters, Dr Mangalsing Hazowary, ex- president of All Bathou Religious Union said the people of Bodo community celebrate the Bathou religion traditiolly and this community has not forgotten the traditiol value and culture of the religion. The open meeting which was chaired by the president of Kokrajhar district committee of Bathou Religious Union Tikendrajit Basumatary was also attended by MLA Pramila Rani Brahma and others.
