KOKRAJHAR, September 28: The students of Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar boycotted the classes for a day on Monday.
The students are likely to sit for a hunger strike tomorrow if their demands are not addressed immediately by the authority, said Biswa J Kalita, general secretary of Bineswar Brahma Engineering College Students’ Union (BBECSU). They demanded full-fledged government college, continuous power supply, permanent Principal and faculties and college bus at subsidized rate. The student shouted slogans against the government.
The students’ union had written a letter to the Director of Education on September 2 to solve the problems faced by the students and institute, but the authority had allegedly turned a deaf ear. The students said that the Assam Government had adopted a ‘lackadaisical attitude’ towards the development of the BB Engineering College.
The Principal of the college also said that he had informed the higher authority about the grievances of the students, infrastructural development and academic problems of the institute.
