Beef party in Tura on June 10

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Tura, June 6: Former BJP leader Berrd Marak, who recently quit from the BJP, has called for a bitchi (rice beer) – beef party in Tura on June 10. Marak had earlier planned to organise the party to celebrate Modi government’s three years in office but the proposed party was cancelled following instruction from BJP leadership. His resigtion from the party has given him the liberty to go ahead with hosting the party at Eden Bari. “Beef party is planned to promote the cultural and traditiol practices of the Garos as it is an age old tradition which cannot be dictated by the BJP in Garo hills”, Marak said, adding, “Garos are independent hill tribe, which is recognised by the constitution and protected under the schedule. Garos created history 200 years ago opposing the Zamindars, who intruded into our hills. We will create another history now by protecting our culture and practices, making it clear to BJP that this is land of the Garos”.

He said that the bitchi – beef party would reassert the Garos right over land and to promote the law of the land. He informed that the party would be open to all and various traditiol dishes like kappa, brenga, wetepa, etc will be part of the menus.

Bachu Marak, who resigned from the BJP yesterday, would also be attending the party at Tura. “I would attend the beef party in Tura to register our voice against such move of the BJP,” he said.
