Benevolence of Octogenarian Teacher Sets Example

Silchar: The greatest and noblest work for any human being is to think of society and contribute in his or in her own way for its well being and welfare. There are some who only think of themselves and their self-aggrandizement. There are exceptions also who despite all their constraints give some thought for benevolent causes and set examples of their own and at the same time inspire others to contribute according to their mite for humanitarian causes.

The other day an octogenarian retired teacher of Silchar Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School Iva Dutta came forward to donate Rs.50,001 to Cachar Cancer Hospital Society which has earned a place of the reputation for its services to the suffering patients of dreaded disease by making the expensive treatment not only affordable but also quite updated. Like many other donors, Iva Dutta has voluntarily reached the residence of Prof. Dilip Kumar Dey, an esteemed member of Cachar Cancer Hospital Society and handed over the cheque to him in presence of another member, Narendra Purkayastha.

Prof. Dilip Kumar Dey while acknowledging with all gratitude the donation of Iva Dutta said as a teacher she had endeared herself to the students by her amiable nature and social participation. In her 83, she continues to think of benevolent services. The daughter of Iva Dutta, Debashree who resides in the United States of America regularly remits her contributions to the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society’s foreign contribution fund account.

Iva Dutta, in fact, belongs to a family with a sense of social belongingness, missing nowadays. She is the wife of the elder brother of Haridas Dutta, a well known social activist. By donating the handsome amount, Prof. Dilip Kumar Dey said this is a noble example which should be emulated by those who also think of doing something for the society.
