Betel nut vendor's daughter Lakimoni Nath shines in HS (Arts) exam with 90.6 per cent in Gaurisagar

GAURISAGAR: Lakimoni Nath, a student of Gaurisagar Junior College in Sivasagar district, secured 90.6 per cent in the HS (Arts) examination. She scored letter marks in English (86), Assamese (93), Economics (94), Education (90), Political Science (86) and Sociology (85). She is the youngest daughter of Hori Kanta Nath and Ami Nath of No.2 Hatighuli Village. Her father earns his livelihood by selling betel nut. Despite the remarkable achievement of their daughter, Lakimoni's parents are worried as to how they will afford to pay for her higher education.

In the HSLC examination, Lakimoni obtained distinction by securing 87.50 per cent. The Gaurisagar Junior College came forward and provided free education. Lakimoni's family expressed their sincere gratitude to the fraternity of Gaurisagar Junior College. On the other hand, having heard about the brilliant performance of the girl, Jitu Dutta, noted social worker of Gaurisagar and proprietor of Binayak Restaurant, rushed to her residence and assured to bear the expenditure of her education up to post-graduate level. Besides, Bhaskar Nath, a businessman and BJP leader, also assured to provide Rs 5,000 for Lakimoni's education.
