Bharatiya Janata Party Clinches Absolute Majority In Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh clinched absolute majority in the 60-member Assembly winning 41 seats, while its rival Congress has bagged just four seats, the final results made available on Sunday by the Election Commission said.

For the first time, the BJP will form government in the Himalayan State with the support of its own MLAs. The saffron party has three unopposed candidates.

Counting of votes on Friday for Daporijo, Dumporijo and Raga constituencies in Upper Subansiri district was delayed as the outcome of the postal ballots has not been made available on time, election official said. The counting official went away from the counting centre without handing over the results for which counting could not be continued as per the guidelines. However, it started after the polling official returned and handed over the results, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kanki Darang informed.
