Bhutan’s Consul General Calls on Governor to Discuss Bilateral Ties

GUWAHATI: Consul General of Bhutan Phub Tshering called on State’s Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and discussed with him issues concerning bilateral interests like trade and commerce and tourism in particular, a Raj Bhavan communiqué said.

Referring to the age old ties between Bhutan and Assam and their geographical proximity, both Mukhi and Phub Tsering’s discussion centered around deepening the bilateral relation taking advantage of Act East Policy.

Governor Mukhi stressing on frequent interaction between Assam and Bhutan requested Phub Tshering for taking adequate measures of sending business and cultural delegations to Assam on a regular basis to which Assam will also reciprocate.

Responding to Mukhi’s request of increasing the frequency of flight from Guwahati to Paro connecting Singapore, Consul General Tshering informed that very soon one more flight will start from Guwahati to Thimpu connecting Singapore. Hailing the Governor’s statesmanship, the Consul General said that though India and Bhutan enjoyed balanced business relations, it will grow deeper to include more sectors to the mutual benefit of both Bhutan and Assam, the communiqué added.
