LAKHIMPUR: The biennial conference of the Lakhimpur District Senior Citizens’ Association was held on Sunday at Panindra Bidyalaya campus of North Lakhimpur town.

The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of flag by working president Hemchandra Goswami while secretary Tileswar Borah offered smriti tarpan. The delegate meeting of the programme commenced under the chairmanship of the working president. In that meeting, the secretary presented the secretarial report while auditor Khagen Saikia submitted the audit report of the last session. The same meeting took a resolution to demand the government to ban toxic liquor in Assam, to take steps to provide seats with remittance in the ASTC buses for senior citizens, to reserve at least two seats in the buses of less distance for senior citizens, to construct the flyover on the railway crossing at Nakari immediately and to reserve designations for women in the State Senior Citizens’ Association.

In the meeting, the district committee for the next two years’ session was constituted with Tileswar Borah as president, Bhupen Doley as working president, Chitta Kumar Mahanta, and Bhuban Chamua, Phulma Saikia, Golap Baruah as vice-presidents. The open session of the event, which was chaired by Hemchandra Goswami, was inaugurated by Manoranjan Sarmah, the president of the State Senior Citizens’ Association.
