Big win for Assam in T Ao soccer tournament

GUWAHATI: Assam made good start in the 2nd Dr. T Ao North East International NEC Gold Cup Soccer tournament thrashing KT United of Bhutan by 6-0 at the SAI Sports Complex here today. In the other match of the day Meghalaya beat Tripura by 2-1.

Bishnu Bodoloi, who scored hat-tric in today’s game, was the star performer of the day. Karan Chetry (2) and Tulung Daimary scored other goals for home team in the match.

Earlier the tournament was kick off in a glittering function held at the SAI Sports complex here today. The inaugural function of the meet was attended by Ram Muivah,, the secretary of NEC, former international footballer Debashish Roy, Brahmanand, Renedy Singh, Gumpe Rime, Asian Games medal winner weightlifter Kunja Rani Devi, Former Olympian archer Chakravalu Swuro , Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsu, the Assistant High commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati, Swapnanil Barua, the president of the T Ao Birth Centenary Celebration committee, Subhash Basumatary, the Director of SAI (NE) and Biswajit Basumatary, the Dean of LNIPE and many others.

In a brief speech Brahmanand today said, “It’s a very nice initiative to organize such a tournament. The young players of the region have got a good platform to show their skill.”

Four sports organizers and officials along with former sportsperson were also felicitated in the opening function and the list included the name of Tayabun Nessa, Premadhar Sarma, Uday Kamal Chetia and Elvis Ali Hazarika. The inaugural programme was followed by brief cultural function where two popular singers of Assam Manas Robin and Abhishruti Bezbarua performed.
