GUWAHATI, April 18: In a bid to get across the message against increasing crimes against women in the State, over 30 Bihu Samragis danced to the tune of a Bihu song depicting the importance of women in today’s world, at Latasil playground here on Tuesday night.

The dance performance was just before the commencement of the ‘Bihu Samragi 2018’ competition.

Taking Bihu as an instrumental tool, this initiative endeavours to voice the current trend of crime against women which has emerged as the biggest social threat in the region. The campaign aims to prevent the different forms of violence against women.

Commenting on the initiative, Kailash Sarma, president, Guwahati Bihu Sanmillani, said that for the first time all the Bihu Samragis performed with the common objective of combating ‘violence against women’ and this has made this Bihu special. “Bihu is about beauty and nature, and women are the most beautiful creature of nature. Raising awareness about violence against women on Bihu is a true tribute to the spirit of Bihu”, Sarma added.

The song was prepared by Poran Borkotoki and sung by the renowned singers Santa Uzir, Zublee, Pompi Gogoi and Shruti Goswami, and the lyrics is written by Rajdweep.
