Bongaigaon, May 18: How many types of Bihu are there? Ans: Three. But now an Assamese grammar has stated that there are 12 types of Bihu. ‘Sahaj Byakaran aru Rosona’, published by New Muhammadiya Pustakalaya of Dhubri has made this observation. This grammar also mentions that Bihu in Assam is celebrated on the last day of every month.
This amazing grammar is seemingly written by different writers. In the front page the writer’s name is mentioned as Md E Ali whereas inside the writer’s name appears as Bhuya and Molla.
This has drawn the attention of some concerned persons of Abhayapuri. Talking to the press, Bikram Ranjan Ray, one such person said that they came to know about the book and searched for it. “We found it in a book stall of Chapar area of Dhubri district and brought it before the media. This type of books are giving wrong education to the students and destroying the image of our rich culture,” he said. Meanwhile, Bongaigaon district Xahitya Xabha has condemned the development and has warned the publisher group not to spoil the life of students. Few other organizations also condemned the same.
