GUWAHATI: Bimal Chandra Goswami Memorial 2nd North East Open Sport Climbing Competition will kick off in the city on May 25. The two-day meet will be jointly organized by the Assam Mountaineering Association, Assam Sport Climbing Association and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship.

Addressing the media the president of the Assam Sport Climbing Association Swapnanil Barua said, the competition would be held in three groups- sub-junior, junior and senior for Lead and Speed categories. Around 150 participants from eight North East State are expected to take part in the competitions. Later a zonal team would be selected from this meet which will participate in the National level meet.

He also added: “Rock Climbing is the part of 2020 Olympic and selected players from this meet would get the chance to attend selection trail for the Indian team and will also be able to participate in national championship representing their zone and states.”

This time the tournament carries a cash award of Rs one lakh twenty thousand. 1st three position winners in each category will collect cash award of Rs 5000, 3000 and 2000 each.

The media briefing was also attended by the officials of Assam Mountaineering Association and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship.
