Biplobi Veer Shankar Baruah Award given away

Golaghat, Feb 12: The Biplobi Veer Shankar Baruah Award is given away every year by the Shankar Anprova Trust in fond memory of renowned freedom fighter and political leader, Shankar Prasad Baruah from Golaghat.  A ceremony was held on the occasion at Amateur Theatre Society Auditorium in Golaghat under the aegis of Golaghat garik Mancha. This year the Biplobi Veer Shankar Baruah Award was conferred to two persons - 95-year old veteran freedom fighter from Jorhat, Debeswar Doloi, and socialist leader and former Education Minister Ramani Burman - by Golaghat MLA and former cabinet minister Ajanta Neog.  A decision was taken to send a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the DGP demanding a proper inquiry into the incident where some unidentified miscreants damaged the statue of Biplobi Veer Shankar Baruah located at Shankar Baruah Uddyan in Golaghat town. MLA Ajanta Neog announced fincial aid of Rs 5 lakh to build a statue of Shankar Baruah.
