Bir Chilarai Divas observed in Biswanath Chariali

Biswanath Chariali: Along with the rest of the State, the 509th birth anniversary of Bir Chilarai was observed on Tuesday at Cheniram Das Park under the aegis of Uttaran Samaj, a socio-cultural organization of Biswanath Chariali.

The day’s programme commenced with the lighting of the earthen lamp by veteran social worker Jiten Bhagawati while floral tributes were paid to the portraits of Bir Chilarai by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur. A public meeting was also held on the occasion with Atul Sharma in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Biswanath Municipality chairperson Ruli Sharma, former civil servant Hiteswar Das, artist Durga Saikia and social worker Dr Nagen Baruah. A quiz and drawing competition was organized among school children on the occasion.

BOKO: The 509th Bir Chilarai Divas was celebrated at Nij Bekeli village under Boko constituency for two days. The programme concluded on Tuesday with a cultural rally and a public meeting. Bir Chilarai Divas was observed by Boko Koch Rajbonshi Xatra Sanmilani, Boko Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union and Boko Koch Rajbonshi Mahila Sanmilani. The public meeting was presided over by Bishnuram Das, president of the Boko Koch Rajbonshi Xatra Sanmilani.

Gauranga Choudhury, advisor of Boko Koch Rajbonshi Xatra Sanmilani flayed the BJP government for dilly-dallying on the issue of conferring ST status to the Koch Rajbonshi community and five other ethnic communities of the State. He said that the government would get a befitting reply in the forthcoming general election.
