Silchar, July 10: Choto Prochesta, an altruistic NGO which has been working relentlessly for the uplift of humankind, began its 3 day gala event titled ‘Rabindra-Nazrul Janmo Jayanti’ to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on Monday at 10 in the morning in Netaji Vidya Bhawan Girls’ High School. The programme began with the lighting of auspicious lamp by advisors, Bikramjit Chakraborty and Debanjan Mukherjee, president, Purnendu Das, of Chotto Prochesta and others. Judges were felicitated by Sunita Sharma Majumdar and Rupashree Malakar. Competition in 4 categories was held in Rabindra-Nazrul singing and recitation. In Rabindra Sangeet section, the judges were Prabir Bhattacharjee and Juthika Dutta Banik. Rendering of songs of Nazrul were judged by Dhurjoti Prasad Dutta and recitations were judged by Sabyasachi Purkayastha. Around 200 participants from Silchar, Hailakandi, Lala and Udharbond took part in the competitions. On Wednesday at 10 am a gala cultural programme will be held. It will be followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
