Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore observed by Dima Hasao Bhasa Sanskriti Parishad in Haflong

Haflong1: Ekadash Bhasha Swahid Divas and the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was observed with a day-long programme at the premises of the Cultural Institute Hall at Haflong on Sunday. The Dima Hasao Bhasa Sanskriti Parishad organized the event in the context of Barak Valley, remembering 11 language martyrs in the morning wherein retired Professor Dr Tanmoy Bhattacharya was present as the chief guest and he offered floral tribute to the 11 language martyrs along with several dignitaries.

Dr Bhattacharjee said that the language movement of 1961 was the beginning of Assam University. Prof Bhattacharya appealed to the Dima Hasao Sahitya Sanskrit Parishad to organize such events for the promotion of local Dimasa language. In the evening, a cultural evening programme was organized wherein Nandita Gorlosa, Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council, was present as the chief guest and Dr Tanmay Bhattacharjee, retired Professor, Bahim Chandra Langthasa, former JNH president, Surjya Thaosen, GS, DLM, Mukul Dey, president of Dima Hasao Sahitya Sanskrit Parishad and Anup Biswas, president of Haflong Press Club, as invited guests.

Nandita Gorlosa inaugurated the cultural evening by lighting the lamp along with all the invitees. The opening song was performed by the students of Sur Sangeet Music School, followed by a dance by tiny tots. The prime attraction of the evening was a drama directed by Asok Chakraborty, renowned writer, and performed by children. Artistes from Lumding and Tinsukia kept the audience spell-bound with their extraordinary performances. Earlier, floral tribute was offered to the beautifully decorated portrait of Rabindranath Tagore on his anniversary.
